go down to the rabbit hole.

Instead of the crime scene one might expect from the stated theme, a rabbit and a girl jumped into the frame. They too will disappear in another enlargement, slipping beyond the borders of the new frame — though perhaps not. Go down the rabbit hole.

Antonina Malinovskaia

For three days I tried to resist the association with *Alice in Wonderland*. Too obvious, too banal. But no matter how long I stared, there was nothing there I wanted to discover except a well. Maybe I too am too lazy to read a book without pictures, standing hesitantly at the edge, planning a gentle descent, making a top-ten list of “things to see in the well before it’s too late, ” and figuring out how to secure the rope so I can climb back out.
At some point, one has to admit that the choice was made long ago.
Anything is better than standing still.

I could, of course, have looked for something more refined — in a feather or in the pattern of a manhole cover — but the temptation to peer into windows is stronger than nonconformism.

The fan disrupts the stillness of the photograph: its possible rotation produces a movement of air and a barely perceptible hum. The sound exists only in the imagination, becoming a sign of someone’s invisible presence. The search continues in a musical instrument that holds sound but can acquire a voice only through human touch.

Touch the Keys
Under the lid of an old piano, a scrap of paper was found: two hand-drawn staves containing the opening bars of L’Internationale.
This music has been appropriated and used so many times that it seemed to have lost its meaning.
But it sounds again — as an anthem to freedom and an anthem to ourselves.
When they torture you, smile and make life light — hello, Delon.
Touch the keys.

Victor Ribas

Books in different languages on the same shelf, interrupting the musical notation of a march, at first appear as a disruption in the order of things. Guided by the internal rhythm marked by the composer as a march, the performer comes to understand that this is not the end, but a place where the old order enters into dialogue with the new.

In the fiction section, love was missing both visually and thematically. It is a central element of human relationships, one that naturally completes a collection of stories about people.

Nadia Ermakova

There is a gaze in the original photograph, but the person it belongs to is absent. A face appears in a hand reaching towards an image of someone else’s intimacy. I was looking for the viewer, but the gaze revealed itself only when I became the one being seen.

Unreadble

In the original, the focus is lost, the noise of birds is disrupted, and there is no way to determine the wavelength from 380 nm onward. The scatter of spots must be separated, and the silver dust collected in a glass of water. Then shake it, turn the light in the darkness, until the final development.

At the very centre of the cluster of celestial bodies — although it is impossible to mark the exact point with certainty; see Fragment_1 — lies a celestial object whose appearance is shown in Fragment_2. What comes into view may be a patch of greenery where orcs are perhaps hiding. This is precisely what was missing from the original photograph.

Looking at the image I received, the first thing I saw — and then felt — was the texture of the material. What I am missing is contact with this surface: the sensation of touching it, of interacting with it. I cannot resist the primary function of the carpet depicted in the image, so I will look for someone who might step on it. I choose an image that likewise contains a multiplicity of textures and repeating patterns, but also a part of the body — a foot touching a similar surface.

Alisa Beketova

In almost every image, I see a landscape, and this frame is no exception. The thin straps on the girl’s endless legs became a boundless sky with branches. I found such a landscape outside the city: dry trees rising from a swamp in a remote forest. The vertical lines of the blurred frame are like curtains through which we peek through three circles. The modified image immediately made me want to do something similar with my own photograph. It leaves us alone with blurred fragments of memories and the unsettling noise of interference.

— выбранный кадрированный фрагмент исходной фотографии;
— новую фотографию, сделанную на его основе;

instruction:

Along with these instructions, each participant receives one photograph from the organizer—the starting photograph for their stage of the relay. Neither the photographer’s name nor the previous stages of the relay are disclosed.
Participants are invited to do the following:
1. Carefully examine the starting photograph and identify what is not visible in it and could become the subject of a search.
2. Choose a fragment of the photograph in which the subject of the search might be present, hidden, or revealed in some way, and crop it to a 4:3 aspect ratio.
3. Using the chosen fragment as a starting point, create a new photograph in which what was not visible in the starting photograph—and became the subject of the search—may now be present.
The connection between the chosen fragment and the new photograph develops through the search and is determined by its subject.
There are no restrictions on how the new photograph is created. The new photograph must have a 4:3 aspect ratio. This ensures that the starting photograph, the chosen fragment, and the new photograph all share the same proportions.
4. Write a short comment, up to 500 characters, about what is missing from the starting photograph.
Once you have completed the work, send the relay organizer:
— the chosen cropped fragment of the starting photograph;
— the new photograph created from it;
— your short comment.
Photographs must be submitted in JPEG format. The new photograph must have a 4:3 aspect ratio and measure at least 2000 pixels on its longer side.
Send your materials to the organizer within 3 days of receiving the starting photograph.
The new photograph will be passed on to the next participant without revealing the photographer’s name or showing the previous stages of the chain.
When the photographs are published in ʒиN, all works will be credited to their authors.
